cricket match
LAHORE,
Pakistan (Reuters) - Pakistan tightened security in the city of Lahore ahead of
a final domestic cricket match on Sunday after it decided to go ahead with the
match on its soil despite escalating violence by Islamist militants.
The
government hosted the final of the Pakistan Premier League cricket after a
series of militant attacks killed more than 130 people last month, including a
suicide bombing in Lahore that killed at least 13 people.
All Premier
League cricket matches have been held so far in the UAE due to security
concerns.
"The
government has prepared a tight security plan" for the evening game, which
is expected to end after midnight (1900 GMT), Rana Sinnallah, minister of law
in Punjab and its capital, Lahore, told Reuters.
He said
nearly 4,000 police would patrol the area and the public would have to pass
through five security checks before entering the stadium, which can accommodate
25,000 spectators.
